Alex is an Associate Director and Architect at JTP, with over fifteen years of experience shaping complex, large-scale places from the earliest stages of development. He is recognised for leading strategic masterplanning projects that transform sites into coherent, design-led and commercially viable places, that are ready for successful planning outcomes.
With expertise in housing and neighbourhood design, Alex guides every stage of a project, making decisions that put communities at the heart of process while maximising impact and delivering long-term benefits. His approach focuses on understanding each site’s unique characteristics to unlock potential value and opportunity, creating adaptable frameworks that balance ambition with deliverability.
Alex has been integral to JTP’s work on large strategic masterplans around the UK and oversees projects throughout the entirety of their design process. He has helped to lead and guide the masterplanning stages of several large-scale sites, often working through from early-stage promotion in support of allocations, to outline planning applications, and then further into design coding and first phase implementation. He also leads the practice’s internal design review process, ensuring consistency, quality and alignment with JTP’s broader placemaking ambitions.
Alex’s portfolio includes the regeneration of a former power station site which is undergoing a transformation into a sustainable new community in Rugeley, Staffordshire; Kings Barton in Winchester, which forms part of five phases, including the delivery of 2,000 new homes and mixed-uses such as a supermarket, community and office space, nursery and public house and; Great Grove Farm, where Alex has helped to develop a new vision for Ottershaw, creating a sensitive urban expansion for up to 850 new homes and ancillary uses, located within Surrey’s Green Belt.
He is currently working on Ravensbourne Place – one of the largest developments within Bromley’s Green Belt – which will create a neighbourhood of new homes, community spaces, orchards and sustainable transport routes. Alongside this project, Alex is also contributing to the creation of a vision and spatial framework for Rugeley Town Centre working with Cannock Chase and Staffordshire Councils.
Other notable projects include a new mixed-use neighbourhood at Gilston Park in Hertfordshire, where Alex has developed proposals for the first village masterplan, while preparing a Design Code and series of detailed proving layouts looking at how to optimise density and; Hanwood Park near Kettering, for which he prepared a comprehensive suite of design codes for one of North Northamptonshire’s largest Sustainable Urban Extensions.
As a collaborative practitioner, Alex works closely with clients, consultants, local authorities and stakeholders, translating complex proposals into clear, engaging narratives for both professional and public audiences. He places particular emphasis on meaningful community and stakeholder engagement, recognising that early and ongoing dialogue is essential to shaping well-loved places. By understanding the needs, aspirations and concerns of local communities, he fosters trust and collaboration and integrates these insights into strategic decisions, ensuring projects deliver lasting social, environmental, and economic value.
Outside work, Alex is an avid traveller and enjoys a wide range of sports, including rugby, jiu jitsu, judo, tennis, and skiing
