– The team, including Gillespies and Happold Consulting, was awarded first place out of 75 teams in the conceptual masterplanning competition.
– A Vision that connected Diamond Bay to Dalian’s existing city centre, located to the south of the site, to Jinzhou Special Economic Zone in the north and the new Jinzhou Airport.
– The JTP team developed a strategy for the long term regeneration of Diamond Bay that introduced eight new ‘Cities for Dalian: a Prosperous City, a Gateway City, a Green City, a Tourism City, an Ocean City, an Entrepreneurial City, an International Business City and a Liveable City’.
The proposed Vision also:
– encouraged the city centre to embrace its waterfront;
– created four new Axes of Prosperity: Financial Services Axis, Research & Development Axis, Cultural & Tourism Axis and Production Axis;
– brought the mountains to the sea along green, cooling, landscape corridors;
– reconnected the people to the waterfront and created over 50 sq km of public coastal routes with attractions and public facilities;
– created a series of clearly defined places with strong individual identities; and
– celebrated the city’s historical and industrial legacy.
