The importance of reconnecting fragmented habitats has become more widely recognised across the built environment, with biodiversity net gain now an understood and expected metric. Within JTP, Marcus has embedded this ethos in the practice’s masterplanning of new neighbourhoods and settlements, developing our expertise in the understanding of the eco-systems, and the ways in which we can design and enhance multi-functional environments for maximum benefit.
Creating places that are regenerative, ecologically rich, and actively contribute to nature recovery efforts form the cornerstone of Marcus’s design approach and he has collaborated with The London Wildlife Trust on a number of projects. These include creating a riverside park and ecological enhancements at Poplar Riverside and a new bio-diverse parkland at The Green Quarter in Southall, which is now a neighbourhood of over 45 hectares delivering significant green infrastructure and unprecedented biodiversity net gain. He was also responsible for preparing the submission to the Oxford to Cambridge Growth Corridor for The Wildlife Trust collaborating with Beds, Cambs & Northants, and Berks, Bucks and Oxon Wildlife Trust in preparing 100 Miles Wilder; an alternative nature-led vision for the growth arc where people and nature can thrive alongside each other.
As a Trustee, Marcus will be an ambassador of the London Wildlife Trust and help to shape and oversee its strategic direction. He will actively advocate for nature recovery initiatives and champion the value of wildlife and nature in the city.
We look forward to JTP’s continued collaborative relationship, work and places with the London Wildlife Trust and Marcus’s involvement in guiding a greener and wilder future for everyone in the city.
