The updated plans for the transformation of the old Southall Gasworks site will accommodate 8,100 homes, 18,000 sqm of mixed-use space, a new primary school, and an extensive network of green spaces connecting to the Grand Union Canal and Minet Country Park, creating a truly unique neighbourhood.
A key feature of the enhanced masterplan is the open space framework, which will create a rich, interconnected green environment that prioritises biodiversity and sustainable living. The Green Quarter will set a new standard for urban green living with proposals delivering a 75% biodiversity net gain through the creation of wildflower meadows, grassland and sustainable drainage features, alongside the planting of over 2,500 new trees and the establishment of new copses across the site.
Proposals include a substantial 7.5-acre Wetland designed to be an ecologically vibrant water feature, with new reedbeds and ponds that support wildlife while providing a unique setting for residents. Nature trails will wind around the Wetland, allowing residents to explore and connect with nature. A new 500m-long park will extend from the Central Gardens in Phase 2 to Grand Union Place, forming a continuous green spine with play areas, water features and generous gardens. Together with improved green links to the Grand Union Canal and Minet Country Park, these spaces will enhance local access to nature.
