As a resident, Charles has long been actively involved in community initiatives in Barnes, to help bring residents, businesses and organisations together to shape the area’s future. From supporting local projects and cultural activities to leading collaborative visioning initiatives such as the Big Barnes Ponder and the Mortlake Mash-up, his work reflects a deep commitment to community life.
Charles brings this same collaborative, people-centred ethos that defines his local community work to his projects at JTP. Within the practice, Charles has led our dedicated community planning team, putting local people at the heart of JTP’s placemaking process. Charles’ portfolio has ranged from large-scale regeneration projects such as Beckton Gasworks and Bailrigg Garden Village – whose masterplan won the Landscape Institute Award for Masterplanning and Urban Design in 2022 – to town centre visions in Kendal, Maidenhead and Winchester. His work has won the Stakeholder Engagement category at the Planning Awards numerous times, and his Kendal Vision helped unlock £13.5 million in Levelling Up Funding – a testament to what genuine community-led placemaking can achieve.
The award winners will be announced at a ceremony on 24 March, and we congratulate Charles on this well-deserved recognition of his dedication and leadership.
