VIVID and Guildford Cathedral held a public webinar on Thursday 23 September at 6pm, to share with the community how their ideas have shaped proposals for new homes on land adjacent to the Cathedral.

This public event was an opportunity for people to find out how the delivery partners have addressed key themes and issues raised throughout the community engagement process detailed below. The webinar was hosted by VIVID and Guildford Cathedral, the delivery partners for the proposed new scheme, along with architects JTP and other specialist consultants.

Background
VIVID and Guildford Cathedral are working on proposals for new homes and enhanced public space on land near the Cathedral in Guildford, Surrey.

The plans will be shaped with the help of local people and will provide much-needed homes, including affordable homes, in an attractive new neighbourhood while improving connections with the town centre for the wider community.

VIVID and Guildford Cathedral are committed to working closely with the local community and have appointed architects and urban designers JTP to facilitate the Community Planning Day and Report Back Exhibition.

Community Planning Day
On Saturday 30 November 2019, over 100 people attended the Homes Near Guildford Cathedral Community Planning Day to help shape a new neighbourhood near Guildford Cathedral. The day was a chance to share local knowledge and contribute to creating the new vision through facilitated workshops and hands-on planning groups. There was also an exhibition explaining the background to the site and team members were on hand to answer questions.

Workshops began at 11.30am and participation was on a drop-in basis with no need to pre-register – participants could stay for a short while, a couple of hours or for the whole event.

Report Back Exhibition
Following the Community Planning Day, the JTP led team has analysed and summarised the outcomes and drawn up an illustrated vision for the site. The exhibition on 23 January 2020 was a chance to view the outcomes from this event and study the emerging proposals for the site. View the exhibition boards here and the broadsheet here.

Next Steps
The JTP led team will develop the proposals and prepare a detailed planning application.
