An outline planning application has now been submitted to East Cambridgeshire District Council for a sustainable Garden Village extension to Kennett.
East Cambridgeshire District Council has registered the application and will engage in a consultation period during which time the public can make comments on the application. The Planning Application Reference is: 18/00752/ESO.
On Friday 9 February 2018, the local community was invited to the Kennett Garden Village Pre-Application Exhibition to view and comment on proposals for a sustainable new neighbourhood on land adjacent to Station Road, to the north of Kennett Station.
The local community was invited to view and comment on draft plans for this area before the masterplan is finalised and submitted for outline planning approval later this year. Palace Green Homes and their consultant team, including masterplanners, transport, landscape and planning specialists, were available to discuss the proposals with the community and to collect feedback.

Local developer Palace Green Homes has been working in close partnership with Kennett Community Land Trust (CLT), Kennett Parish Council and the wider community to design a development that will bring real benefits to local people and create a positive legacy for the parish. The Vision and masterplan for Kennett Garden Village have evolved through a process of collaborative planning with local people, statutory authorities and service providers; in particular, issues raised at the Community Planning Weekend in November 2016 have significantly shaped the current plans.
Alongside new homes and jobs this development will deliver important improvements for the local community including:
- Decreasing the need for HGVs and other through traffic to pass though Kennett by provision of a new perimeter road;
- Enabling the well-loved village school to move into a modern building with a more spacious play area;
- Improving car and cycle parking facilities at the rail station;
- Providing good-quality affordable homes for local people through a Community Land Trust, and
- Providing new local facilities including a shop.
The Village Square is a key part of the Village Centre, which forms part of the Village Core. Surrounded by the school, CLT offices and other mixed-uses it will create a focus for the community.
