In the 1990's the Newington and St. Andrew's district of Hull had suffered serious decline combined with a rapidly declining population.

The area had some of the worst housing, environmental, economic and social problems in Hull and was recognised as a priority for regeneration.

A partnership between Gateway, the neighbourhood regeneration agency; and Keepmoat paved the way for the transformation of the area under the Housing Market Renewal Programme.

Project Delivery

An Area Development Framework was developed in parallel with an Area Action Plan, in consultation with the community who identified the need for radical change.
The creation of a programme to transform the housing market by tackling the worst housing conditions and creating new inner city housing linked to jobs and regeneration in the city centre.
Demolition of back-court terraces and a council depot.
An approved plan for 600 new affordable and private for sale homes, together with retail and community facilities, designed around a range of green spaces including new allotments, formal gardens and play spaces.
A park at the centre of the development draws inspiration from Amy Johnson, the 1930's aviator who flew 10,000 miles from Hull to Darwin in Australia.
A four-phase development programme, with the first phase of 148 units commencing on site in April 2010.
