Southall Waterside Scoops Two Awards at the 2018 Planning & Placemaking Awards

JTP is delighted to announce that Southall Waterside has received the Award for Excellence in Placemaking at High Densities and also Best Use of Brownfield Land in Placemaking at the 2018 Planning & Placemaking Awards.

Southall Waterside for Berkeley Homes (West Thames) is one of London’s largest and most significant regeneration projects, delivering a dynamic new urban quarter for Ealing within the Mayor’s first Strategic Housing Zone. Inaccessible, underutilised and heavily contaminated by industry, the 45-hectare former Southall Gasworks provides a significant opportunity to capitalise on Crossrail investment, and transform the local area.

Drawing on the original Borough motto ‘For All’ and existing cosmopolitan culture, Southall Waterside has been designed to support all lifestages, nurture a sense of belonging, and catalyse wider regeneration.

Southall Waterside will feature 3,750 homes set in 5.6-hectares of public squares & parkland, including a kilometre of revitalised canalside, cycle paths and walking trails, and footbridge connections to Minet Country Park.

An innovative ‘Staged Placemaking’ approach addresses the 25-year delivery – ensuring Southall Waterside functions successfully as a place at every stage; involving sequencing of infrastructure and public realm and creation of distinctive residential neighbourhoods. This radical departure from traditional phasing has enabled early delivery of mixed uses close to Southall Station.

The first phases of Southall Waterside are due to be complete at the end of 2021.
