Planning Approval for New Neighbourhood in Borehamwood

JTP’s design for a residential scheme has been granted planning permission by Hertsmere Council for Bellway Homes.

The redevelopment of the Hertswood Upper School site on Thrift Farm Lane, Borehamwood will provide 301 new dwellings set within landscaped green spaces. The existing Academy on the site will be relocated to a new one-site school off Cowley Hill. The development of the residential scheme will provide funding for the construction of the new school.

The site location on Thrift Farm Lane, Borehamwood is close to the centre of Borehamwood benefiting from extensive open space close to the site, surrounding residential neighbourhoods and within close proximity to local facilities, amenities, and public transport.

Following an extensive design process the design creates a vibrant residential development comprising of high quality new homes integrated within the existing urban fabric of Borehamwood. A large landscaped central open space in the heart of the scheme creates a ‘destination’ and ‘sense of place’ for residents, pedestrian links within the scheme connects it to the town centre and surrounding woodlands.

The development references architectural cues from buildings in the heart of Borehamwood, providing a mix of 149 family houses and 152 apartments. The buildings have been designed to form a harmonious and visually stimulating streetscene. A variety of apartment buildings and house typologies retains the character of Borehamwood with attention to brick detailing and range of brick colours. A central mews layout creates an urban feel, the intimate scale buildings promote a sense of community.

Construction is due to begin on site early 2016.
