Lenton Gardens Wins LABC East Midlands Building Excellence Award for Second Year

We are delighted to have been awarded Best Social / Affordable Housing for the second year in a row for our project Lenton Gardens, in the LABC (Local Authority Building Control) East Midlands Building Excellence Awards.

The LABC awards showcase buildings and design teams that have had to tussle with difficult technical or construction issues and building site constraints. They highlight innovative and creative solutions and building control professionalism that leads to safe, sustainable and high quality construction projects. The winners demonstrate how positive working relationships with local authority building control teams achieves high quality, sustainable buildings.

Lenton Gardens is the largest and most ambitious estate regeneration project in Nottingham, where five 1960’s high-rise buildings are being replaced by high quality homes for families based around a network of tree-lined streets and a central open space. The proposals also provide a purpose-designed Independent Living block, including one and two bedroom apartments and communal facilities, arranged around a courtyard garden.

JTP was appointed by Nottingham City Homes to develop the masterplan, facilitate community planning events and deliver a detailed planning application. Subsequently JTP was novated to the contractor Keepmoat to deliver the working drawings packages, firstly for the Independent Living Block (ILB) which was completed in 2015, and then on the other elements of the project including bungalows, houses and apartments which are currently on site.

Our collaborative approach to placemaking at Lenton Gardens led to the creation of a neighbourhood to suit the needs of those with long-term commitments to staying in Lenton. It’s fantastic that our community-led process is delivering high quality, sustainable buildings which have now been recognised twice by the LABC.
