JTP’s Urban Extension to Great Wakering Receives Planning Approval

JTP has received planning approval for a sustainable urban extension to the settlement of Great Wakering, east of Southend and north of Shoeburyness in Essex.

Our proposals for West Great Wakering will establish a distinctive, high quality 5.3ha neighbourhood of up to 120 new homes in a mixture of tenures and sizes, set within a beautiful and generous landscape network.

The site is a logical location for an extension to Great Wakering, providing the opportunity to support the growth of the village and enhance its connections within the local area through integrated pedestrian and cycle routes. The designs draw sensitively on the rural context and wealth of local character to root the new homes in an attractive and sustainable setting.

West Great Wakering will have a strong sense of belonging to the existing village, promoted by landscape features such as an organic green edge of spaces and items for fitness and informal play, and will establish a thriving new socially inclusive community, facilitated by the variety of house types designed to attract a vibrant mix of residents.

The proposals include an integrated Sustainable urban Drainage System (SuDS) and retention basins, enclosed by generous public and private green spaces. This ensures the proposals reflect the natural features of the site, such as the open views to the west across surrounding farmland and countryside.
