JTP’s Radlett apartments receive planning approval

Hertsmere Borough Council has approved JTP’s proposals for a new high quality apartment building in Radlett, Hertfordshire.

The brownfield site is located to the west of Radlett railway station and the town centre, near to Radlett North Conservation Area and a five-minute walk from Radlett High Street, with its variety of amenities. Radlett is naturally landscaped, surrounded by a large area of greenbelt.

JTP’s proposals comprise ten apartments in a mix of two- and three-bedrooms, set amongst the retained mature trees and hedges to create a richly landscaped communal garden, in addition to private green space for all residents. 

The building form is contextually responsive to the urban grain of the area, defined by an eclectic mix of terraced streets, clusters of low-rise apartment buildings and large detached homes set back from the road.  The building frontage steps back progressively to address its neighbours and reinforce the existing street pattern.

JTP has embedded high quality placemaking within the proposals, designing all homes to be dual aspect and generous in size, with wrought iron detailing to the balconies and terraces, and stone detailing to the gable parapets to accent the primary material of brick, used in several tones for variation along the façade and patterned around the entrances.

Two elegant gables flank the building at each side and address the street. Car and cycle parking is accommodated below the building footprint to remove cars from the street scene.
