Involving Communities in Placemaking: JTP Partner at Civic Voice Annual Conference

On Saturday 20th October at this year’s Civic Voice Annual Conference, JTP partner, Charles Campion will give a presentation and co-lead a workshop to explore how involving communities in placemaking can deliver transformative outcomes. 

The Civic Voice Annual Conference, taking place in Birmingham this year, is themed on the question: 'how can we balance conservation with regeneration?'  As a response to the recent National Planning Policy Framework (NPPF) update which calls for more effective community engagement in planning, this workshop session is entitled: 'NPPF Update: Planning and Community Engagement' and will take place from 12.45 to 2pm.  Chaired by Paul Bedwell (Director at Spawforths) the panelists will include:

  • Charles Campion, Partner-in-Charge of Participatory Planning at JTP
  • Andrew Matheson, former Policy and Network Manager at the Royal Town Planning Institute (RTPI)
  • Lucie Carayon, Director at the Ancient Monuments Society
  • Margaret Hollins, Civic Voice Trustee

Charles will present case studies from his new book, 2020 Visions: Collaborative Planning & Placemaking (RIBA Publishing, 2018). The book gives practitioners and communities the inspiration and confidence to introduce Charrettes – collaborative design workshops - in to their planning processes.
