ITV feature on Alconbury Weald: New community taking shape on old airfield near Cambridge

Progress on site at Alconbury Weald, our significant masterplan for Urban&Civic, has been captured in a video by ITV, showing the community begin to take shape as residents and businesses settle in. Click here to view.

At Alconbury, Urban&Civic is transforming a 575 ha brownfield site, providing over 5,000 homes, an employment Enterprise Campus, new schools, transport linkages, energy infrastructure and community facilities – all integrated within over 280 ha of open space.

JTP’s role has extended from ‘big picture’ strategic placemaking moves, through to the preparation of detailed implementation strategies and developer briefing packs, and on to the design of a new range of innovative high-density housetypes for Urban&Civic, as they move directly into housebuilding for the first time.

The article reports that:

"A new community being built in Cambridgeshire is promising thousands of affordable homes and new jobs.

It was back in 2009 when the new owners of the former Alconbury airbase announced plans to spend millions of pounds redeveloping it.

Eight years on and Alconbury Weald, as it was named, is now starting to take shape."
