Hybrid Planning Application for Allerton Bywater Millennium Village Submitted

JTP, on behalf of Keepmoat Homes together with the Homes & Communities Agency, has submitted a Hybrid Planning Application for 5.72ha of land in Allerton Bywater, West Yorkshire to Leeds City Council.

The submitted proposal would deliver the final phases of the 24ha Allerton Bywater Millennium Village, an expansion and regeneration of a former mining community which began in 2006 with the establishment of the Allerton Bywater Millennium Community Development following the closure of the local coalmine in 1992.

JTP's Detailed Planning Application for 191 new homes comprises a mix of two and three storey new houses with 2 to 4 bedrooms and 20 elderly persons apartments in a single four/five storey block. Proposals for commercial facilities to the north of the site, including retail, industrial and commercial units, which have been submitted for Outline Planning, have been carried out by Cartwright Pickard Architects and Priority Space who worked closely with JTP to ensure an integrated and holistic design solution.

The new residential development will establish a sequential storey-board of experiences, space and buildings with a complementary yet distinctive sense of place. As the final phase, the new residential development will enhance the legibility and functionality of the wider settlement by reconnecting routes and establishing destinations along these routes.

JTP's scheme adopts a fine grained approach to street arrangements with family dwellings forming tight home zones behind the principle through routes. At the heart of the proposal is Silkstone Square, which includes the focal building - a bespoke apartment block designed closely to follow the ten key recommendations from HAPPI (Housing our Ageing Population; Panel for Innovation) to accommodate the specific needs of elderly residents.
