Four JTP Projects Shortlisted in 2017 Planning & Placemaking Awards

JTP is delighted to reveal that four of our projects have been shortlisted in this year’s Planning & Placemaking Awards.

The Planning & Placemaking Awards “reward excellence in planning-related activities such as placemaking, urban design, economic development, housing, regeneration, legal advice, and environmental consulting and property development as well as in professional planning work.”

The projects are shortlisted in four different award categories – Best use of brownfield land in placemaking; Best housing scheme (500 homes or more); Best housing scheme (fewer than 500 homes), and Best Regeneration – representing the breadth of our placemaking work.

Southall Waterside has been shortlisted in the ‘Best Use of Brownfield Land in Placemaking’ category. Southall is an exemplar regeneration of a 45 ha, strategically significant brownfield site in Ealing, West London, which was for a long time left as an inaccessible void in the urban fabric. JTP’s masterplan, architecture and landscape design proposals capitalise on the opportunities to reconnect the expansive, underused site to the town centre, to bring significant benefits to the local community and catalyse further regeneration for the area.

Brunel Street Works, our new urban quarter on a complex site in Canning Town, is nominated for ‘Best Housing Scheme (500 homes or more)’. The site, measuring 0.5 km long and only 25-70m wide, is bounded by the DLR and Jubilee line to the west and Silvertown Way to the east, including part of Britain’s first flyover which currently severs the site from Canning Town. The proposals will reconnect this site to the town through the reestablishment of Silvertown Way as an active street, and will provide an innovative even split of private rent, private sale and affordable housing to create a diverse and socially inclusive community.

Our Thames riverside project Kew Bridge is shortlisted for ‘Best Housing Scheme (fewer than 500 homes)’. Kew Bridge is a residential-led neighbourhood located within two Conservation Areas, adjacent to the Grade II* listed Kew Bridge, and in close proximity to the Grade I listed Campanile of the Kew Steam Museum.

And finally, Battersea Power Station Phase II, one of the largest mixed-use projects in Europe, is in the running for ‘Best Regeneration Project’. JTP has been involved with the project for over ten years as Executive Masterplanner, working in collaboration with a number of architects to provide a wide range of services including feasibility studies, strategic placemaking consultancy, planning application documentation and architectural design procurement. JTP also developed the Placebook, a bespoke Vision document setting out a detailed place strategy, and has been used as the core briefing document across the project.

The winners of the Planning & Placemaking Awards will be announced on 21 June.
