Former Industrial Estate Imber Riverside Receives Reserved Matters Approval

JTP’s proposals for a new residential neighbourhood to revitalise an industrial site in East Molesey have received Reserved Matters Approval from Elmbridge Borough Council.

This project for CALA Homes (Thames) will comprise 95 high quality homes on land currently known as Imber Court Trading Estate, off Orchard Lane to the south of East Molesey. Situated on the southern banks of the Thames, the town of East Molesey and the immediate area is surrounded by the rich history of Hampton Court Palace. The River Ember runs along the western boundary of the site and the proposals seek to open up the previously inaccessible brownfield site to include a new pedestrian walkway along the river for locals to enjoy.

Imber Riverside will include a mix of one to five bedroom homes, with 40% affordable housing to give people in the area a genuine opportunity to access the property ladder. A clear hierarchy of routes and spaces has been adopted to allow easy navigation and harness community feeling through the clustering of homes around landscaped and green spaces, with views towards the River Ember. The proposals will also provide landscape improvements with the planting a number of trees, including large evergreen trees, at the site entrance to further enhance the frontage to Orchard Lane.

JTP’s designs help create a strong character, and respond to feedback gathered from the community to ensure the new neighbourhood will integrate seamlessly with the existing buildings. As a result of the community input the material palette evolved to include a mix of brick colours, to better suit the context. The proposals also include ample off-road parking and a children’s play area at the heart of the site to encourage community cohesion.

Imber Riverside will also be contributing more than £430,000 to further improve local community services and facilities, including contributions towards landscaping, new local footpaths and highways.
