Final Phases of the Hamptons Gains Planning Approval

The final phases of the residential scheme designed by JTP for St James's Homes have been granted planning permission on appeal, following refusal by the London Borough of Sutton.

The designs develop further the theme of boarded architecture established in the earlier phases of the mixed-tenure project, now built and occupied, in which all dwellings are arranged around the 28 acre Mayflower Park and a series of other, high-quality green spaces.

The 184 new dwellings in the final phases, which include 59 affordable units, offer renewable energy in the form of 62 ground source heat pumps and 1,100 sq m of solar roof tiles.

Local objections to the scheme were primarily on grounds of traffic generation, however the Inspector approved the scheme for meeting "the Government's objective to secure a better balance between housing demand and supply and create high quality, sustainable, mixed and inclusive communities". The inspector went on to comment that "the scheme has been designed to reflect the high standards of the previous phases of The Hamptons."
