Final Phase of Hungate Receives Go Ahead

The City of York has recommended approval for the final phase of JTPs proposals for Hungate, a large scale residential regeneration project, located on a brownfield site on the south-east edge of York city centre.

The scheme, for clients Lend Lease and joint venture partner Evans Property Group, will provide 662 homes; 20,000 sq m of employment, retail, leisure and community uses; two new public squares and a series of new streets and public realm, designed to sensitively knit into the surrounding fabric. Construction is already well underway, with 168 homes already been completed and 195 currently on-site.

The final stage of the masterplan will complete a new urban quarter in the largest remaining construction opportunity within the city’s historic walls and outside its Conservation Area. The City of York’s planning brief set out a vision to create a sustainable and attractive new riverside neighbourhood, designed to reflect the unique character of York.

Work will commence on site in early 2016.
