Charles Campion speaks at Civic Voice debate at Labour Party Conference

JTP Partner Charles Campion spoke at the Civic Voice fringe event during the Labour Party conference in Manchester this week on engaging communities and stakeholders through participatory design processes.

The debate discussed, “How can we give communities a greater say through the planning system?” and was chaired by Joan Humble, Civic Voice Trustee and ex-Labour MP with Roberta Blackman-Woods MP, Shadow Planning Minister and Justin Griggs, National Association of Local Councils and Max Farrell, Farrells on the panel.

The event was hosted by Civic Voice – the national charity for the civic society movement which represents over 75,000 individual members. Civic Voice want to see a new approach in which local authorities are required to demonstrate that local planning decisions can be made only after it has been demonstrated that there has been early and active participation in the process by members of the local community.

Civic Voice will be holding a similar event at the Conservative Party Conference to be attended by JTP Partner Clare San Martin.
