Bromley-by-Bow North Gains Planning Permission

JTP's masterplan for a 3.69 hectare site in the area of London's Bromley-by-Bow for East Thames and Southern Housing Group has received resolution to grant planning from the London Borough of Tower Hamlets and London Thames Gateway Development Corporation.

The approved hybrid application included 741 homes overall and detailed planning for Phase 1, which will deliver 219 homes.

The masterplan's mixed uses across the site include commercial spaces and 350 jobs, along with improved riverside walkways to Three Mills, a heritage landmark site that is home to the world's oldest tidal mill. Due to the site's location partly within the Three Mills Conservation Area, new buildings will be set back 55 metres away from the listed buildings and have been designed with a warehouse aesthetic to reflect the area's industrial heritage.

The site is located in the Lower Lea Valley, an area that has garnered much attention as the centre for the 2012 London Olympics. Currently, the site is occupied by existing derelict and underutilised former warehouse, storage and light industrial spaces. With the site located in such close proximity to the Olympic Park, the masterplan has been designed to bring forward a comprehensive design solution as part of a larger new urban quarter, strengthening the identity of the river corridor and contributing to the regeneration of East London and 2012 Olympic Games Legacy.

East Thames and Southern Housing Group aim to start Phase 1 on-site in January 2013.
