Berkeley Group founder and chairman Tony Pidgley CBE visits JTP's new studio at Pennington Street Warehouse

JTP was delighted to welcome Mr Tony Pidgley (CBE), founder and chairman of the Berkeley Group along with Piers Clanford, Managing Director of St George PLC; and Marcus Blake, Managing Director of St George City to our new studio at Pennington Street Warehouse, London Dock, Wapping.

Pennington Street Warehouse is a Grade 2 listed former bonded warehouse with a semi-basement of brick vaulted cellars originally used for the storage of rum and spices. It sits within a new neighbourhood at London Dock, in the heart of Wapping, which has been regenerated by St George and is destined to be a thriving cultural quarter just east of the City.

JTP acquired a section of the 315m long warehouse from St George in 2016 with the vision to design a creative, healthy and sustainable studio. Through the creative reuse and adaptation of the Grade 2 Listed Warehouse, we reimagined the space appreciating the unique character of the building and its contrasting spaces; respecting the building’s unique historic features and scars of its former life.

Our imaginative transformation has created a healthy and sustainable studio, and collaborative workplace designed to respond to the way we work and enabling major operational change in our working practices to provide greater flexibility; efficiencies in working; improved communication and knowledge sharing whilst promoting healthy lifestyles and social interaction.

Mr Pidgley’s visit was a momentous occasion for JTP. Mr Pidgley and the Berkeley Group were the first of JTP’s clients when John Thompson & Partners (JTP) was formed in 1994. Over 25 years JTP has been honoured to work across the Berkeley Group and St George in creating great places. More recent projects include Southall Waterside and the redevelopment of the former Leven Road gasworks in Poplar.

We were therefore delighted to have the opportunity to show Mr Pidgley and his team how our vision to transform the historic warehouse has been realised.

As part of the visit, we presented Mr Pidgley with a personal copy of “John Thompson: Creating Great Places” which captures the 50 year career of JTP’s Founder Chairman.
