Approval for JTP’s Regeneration of Hampshire Police Headquarters

JTP’s proposals for the regeneration of the former Hampshire Police Headquarters in Winchester have received Detailed Planning consent.

Berkeley Homes (Southern) purchased the site in 2014 and appointed JTP as masterplanners and architects, who developed proposals through a community engagement process with stakeholders including the local community and residents groups. 

The scheme is focused around a central public open space that will provide a green heart and sociable hub for the local community.  It will link to the wider, mature green infrastructure of the site, and a hierarchy of routes and spaces will create permeability throughout the neighbourhood for pedestrians.

The 2.36 ha site, located on Romsey Road in the city centre, will provide 208 new, high quality homes of mixed size and tenure.  A 40% affordable provision includes shared ownership, social rent and let-to-buy homes. The existing buildings will be demolished to facilitate the delivery of 18 houses and 190 apartments, along with comprehensive landscaping of the site. Ranging from three to six storeys in height, the designs sensitively respond to Winchester’s historic urban grain.

Construction is due to commence in late 2016.
