On Friday 11, Saturday 12 and Tuesday 15 November 2022, the local community is invited by JTP, on behalf of Summix, to help shape the Vision for Harrington, a sustainable 21st century community with all the best attributes of a traditional small market town. Next steps
Following the Community Planning Weekend, the Vision for Harrington will inform submissions made by the Summix team to the Joint Local Plan process for South Oxfordshire District Council and the Vale of White Horse District Council. This Joint Local Plan will focus on the new homes, infrastructure, jobs and other important considerations needed in the future development of the area.
Background
The challenges facing Oxfordshire are big – whether it’s tackling the climate emergency, improving connectivity for rural communities or creating the jobs and working environments of the future. At the same time, as people are living longer and there has been a second ‘baby boom’, many local families are unable to afford or even find a decent home – so they desperately need new homes built.
Harrington offers a chance to deliver the sustainable growth, including the workspace and homes South Oxfordshire needs, without developing around historic communities, in the green belt or the Chilterns AONB.
Harrington will be designed with everything in place for residents to lead a healthy, low carbon lifestyle in an enterprising and supportive new community. Summix has a commitment to sustainability, health and wellbeing, great community services, enhancing biodiversity and protecting the wider environment.
More than half of the land in Harrington will be set aside for greenspace enabling people to be part of a green and pleasant community with a great emphasis on living within the natural environment.
Roadshows
The roadshows will be a first chance to meet the Summix team, find out more about the ambitions for Harrington and give your thoughts and ideas on the issues and needs of South Oxfordshire now and in the future. Click here to view a copy of the roadshow banners.
