Melton Hill, Woodbridge Community Planning Weekend

The local community was invited to the Melton Hill Community Planning Weekend to help create a Vision for a high quality residential development on land currently owned by Suffolk Coastal District Council.

Background

In 2014, Suffolk Coastal District Council decided to move from its existing offices in Melton Hill to modern premises to reduce running costs. The Council began marketing the Melton Hill site last year and Active Urban Property Group, with their architects Hoopers, has been selected as preferred developer. The 3.23 acre site is close to Woodbridge town centre, with views across the River Deben to Sutton Hoo, and the intention is to create a development befitting its location.

Active Urban is committed to working closely with the local community and has appointed collaborative planning specialists JTP to facilitate the Community Planning Weekend, in collaboration with Hoopers.

Community Planning Weekend

The Community Planning Weekend on 15 & 16 April was an opportunity to share local knowledge and contribute to planning the new development through workshops and hands-on planning groups. There was also an exhibition explaining the background of the site.

Participation was on a drop-in basis with no need to pre-register. Participants were able to stay for a short while, a few hours or for the whole event if they were able to. Team members were on hand to answer questions.

Report Back Presentation

Following the two public workshop days, the JTP led team analysed and summarised the outcomes to draw up a Vision for the site and its relationship with Woodbridge. This was presented back to the local community at 6.30pm, Tuesday 19 April 2016 at Woodbridge Primary School.
