Gillingham Southern Extension Pre-application Exhibition

On Tuesday 13 September 2017, the local community was invited to the Gillingham Southern Extension Pre-application Exhibition to view and comment on proposals for a high quality residential led development on land south of Gillingham.

The North Dorset Local Plan, which is an approved planning policy document, identifies land to the south of Gillingham for the phased expansion of the town. The area is allocated for about 1,800 houses in the period up to the year 2031. It also includes space for employment uses, open space and new facilities to serve the community.

Land at Newhouse Farm and Ham Farm which forms the central part of this planned expansion area is controlled by Welbeck Land. The local community was invited to comment on draft plans for this area before the masterplan was finalised and submitted for outline planning approval in January 2018.

The central area includes:

961 new homes;
a local centre on Shaftesbury Road with shops, a community hall, health centre and homes for older people;
a new street linking New Road and Shaftesbury Road;
expansion of St Mary the Virgin Primary School; and
formal and informal open space including allotments, sports pitches and children’s play areas.

Welbeck Land and their consultant team, including masterplanners, transport, landscape and planning specialists, were available to discuss the proposals and to collect feedback.
