Brunel Street Works Pre-Submission Exhibition

The community was invited to an exhibition of the proposals for Brunel Street Works prior to the submission of a detailed planning application.

Since 2015, Linden Homes has been working with its design team and the local community to develop proposals for a mix of new homes and other uses on the Brunel Street Works site to the south of Canning Town station – a site formerly known as Silvertown Way.

The redevelopment proposals include 975 new homes, comprising affordable, private rented and for sale homes to a target mix that includes a significant proportion of family homes. Over 8,000sqm of mixed uses are also included to generate job opportunities and enliven both Silvertown Way and new public space within the development.

Background
Canning Town and Custom House are undergoing a major transformation led by the London Borough of Newham. In 2013, the Mayor of London announced that it would be releasing 2.56 hectares of land south of Canning Town station and west of Silvertown Way for a high quality residential-led development, which benefits from good access to public transport.

Community Planning
In April last year local residents and stakeholders were invited to the Silvertown Way Community Planning Weekend to help create a new Vision for the site. People took part in workshops, walkabouts and hands-on planning groups facilitated by architects JTP to consider key issues and opportunities for the development and its relationship to the wider Canning Town and Custom House Regeneration Area.

The Community Planning Weekend was followed by two update events in June 2015 and November 2015. Since then, the design team have been developing the proposals which were presented at the most recent exhibition.
