John Thompson & Partners has won the CoreNet Sustainability and Innovation Award 2010, in recognition of the environmental refurbishment of 23-25 Great Sutton Street, an existing 1920s warehouse.
"The retrofit demonstrates how existing buildings can be practically improved to perform as highly sustainable offices. Approximately two-thirds of the UK's existing building stock pre-dates the introduction of any environmental requirement in the UK building regulations. Commercial retrofit should therefore be at the top of the sustainable agenda, particularly while new construction has slowed the ability to decrease Co2 emissions through new building standards has decreased," said Marcus Adams, Managing Partner.
The retrofit incorporates systems, technologies and materials that substantially reduce energy demand and emissions, provide sustainable energy supply and minimise both water usage and waste.
Earlier in the year, the building was awarded The City of London's Sustainable Building of the Year.
