03/10/2012
John Thompson & Partners' design concept for New Zhukovsky, a new town for 60,000 residents located 20 km east of Moscow, has been reported in The Moscow Times, Russia's only daily English language newspaper.
The new town is planned as part of the National Aircraft Manufacturing Centre and sits next to the science city of Zhukovsky. It is envisioned the new centre will create 10,000 jobs.
JTP ran a weeklong design charrette, working closely with the client, the National Centre for Aviation and local consultants, to produce a Vision and illustrative masterplan for New Zhukovsky. JTP captured the charette in a short video, which can be viewed here.
JTP has been involved in Russian masterplanning projects for over eight years and was recently part of the winning Capital Cities Planning Group team in the Moscow Expansion Competition. The team was awarded first prize for the conceptual design for a new federal district - an expansion project that would double the area of Moscow.
