International Association for Public Participation (IAP2) - Scarborough's Future Celebration Dinner
01/07/2010

In 2009 'Scarborough's Future - Delivering an Urban Renaissance' won the IAP2 Project of the Year Award for it's commitment to proactively seeking people's views on the town's renaissance and placing these opinions at the centre of all major decisions.

JTP's involvement in Scarborough's Renaissance started in 2002 when we led the town wide community visioning process, as part of Yorkshire Forward's Urban Renaissance programme, which resulted in a new Vision and Renaissance Charter for the resort and the establishment of the Town Team.  Since then Scarborough has been transformed and last year it won the award as Europe's most enterprising place and the Academy of Urbanism's ‘Great Town' award, in addition to the IAP2 award.  Charles Campion (extreme left) from JTP attended the celebration dinner, during which IAP2 Executive Director Moira Deslandes (2nd left) from Melbourne presented the award to Cllr Derek J Bastiman (centre) Scarborough Council's Portfolio Holder for Strategic Planning and Regeneration with Nicky Leggatt, IAP2 UK (2nd right) and NickTaylor (extreme right) Scarborough's Future Renaissance Manager.

IAP2 is a worldwide organisation committed to promoting and improving public participation in local and national decision-making.
