New Addington Report Back: 13 October 2009

Action on anti-social behaviour, options for new community facilities, a new market building on Market Square, a new medium sized supermarket and paving and landscape improvements. These are just some of the ideas that have emerged from the Central Parade Community Planning Weekend organised by John Thompson and Partners (JTP) on behalf of Croydon Council.

Over 450 residents and stakeholders participated during the Weekend, which was held at the Addington Community Centre, Central Parade on Friday 9 and Saturday 10 October 2009.

The aim of the Weekend was to bring together everyone with an interest in New Addington to create a new Vision for Central Parade.

The results from the Weekend were analysed and summarised by the team from JTP and presented back to the community on Tuesday 13 October at St Edward's Church.

Background

John Thompson & Partners have been selected by Croydon Council to lead the community planning for New Addington to create a new Vision for Central Parade.  The aim is to produce a widely acceptable long term regeneration plan for the area.

This followed the designation of parts of the Parade as Village Green, which meant that the regeneration plans developed by Croydon Council and its regeneration partner Tesco, were no longer deliverable. The results of the Weekend will be developed into a regeneration framework for Central Parade. The strategic priorities from this will form part of the Council's emerging planning framework - the Core Strategy.

The community of New Addington was invited to a series of consultation activities, starting with neighbourhood meetings on September 15 & 16 2009 and a business stakeholders meeting on 22 September to discuss issues and ideas for the area. A Community Planning Weekend was held on 9 & 10 October 2009.
