Land East of Long Lane, Mulbarton Community Planning Day: Saturday 10 September 2011
The local community was invited to the Land East of Long Lane Community Planning Day to participate in creating a new Vision for the future of the site. The event was open to everyone with an interest in Mulbarton and Land East of Long Lane.
The Land East of Long Lane site has been identified as a possible location for new housing in the village, and, on behalf of Welbeck Land and Landform, John Thompson & Partners (JTP) are assessing the potential form and extent of this. JTP is suggesting that the site might accommodate 180 new homes.
The Community Planning Day was held from 2:00pm- 6:00pm on Saturday 10 September 2011 at Mulbarton Village Hall. The local community had the opportunity to participate in workshops and hands-on planning groups to discuss key issues such as layout and landscape design, sustainability, getting about and the local economy. The design team led by JTP facilitated the day.
Following the Community Planning Day the design team led by JTP will analyse and summarise the outcomes and develop an illustrated Vision for the Land East of Lane. This will be reported back to the community at 7.00pm on Tuesday 20 September 2011 at Mulbarton Village Hall.

Background
Welbeck Land was created in 1994 to expand the Howard de Walden Estate’s property activities. The Estate is one of the largest family owned London property estates. The company is supported by a team that is highly experienced and qualified in planning matters related to major infrastructure and residential projects. Landform is a strategic land development company who specialise in adding value to land and property by delivering imaginative planning, design and development solutions.
The Joint Core Strategy (JCS ) for South Norfolk, Broadland and Norwich City was adopted in March 2011. The JCS sets the strategic housing numbers for the three districts. Between 2008 and 2026, at least 36,820 new homes will be built and about 27,000 new jobs will be created.
Mulbarton is located in the Norwich Policy Area (NPA) and is identified as a sustainable ‘Service Village’ under policy H15 of the JCS . There are 15 Service Villages in South Norfolk. Mulbarton is considered one of the best served Service Villages and has an infant and primary school, village hall, local shops and other amenities. It is in this context that Welbeck Land / Landform Estates have identified the Land East of Long Lane as potentially suitable for new housing development.
